If you were a pregnant star, how would you feel if a magazine came forward and told you they were willing to pay $6 million for exclusive photos of your baby’s picture? Evidently, Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, brought in $4 million and Christina Aguilera’s son, Max Liron Bratman, brought in $1.5 million. That’s a lot of money - and they’re talking about $6 million for the Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony babies. (Don’t feel bad, Shiloh, there’s two of them, and only one of you.)

I mean, on the one hand, if you cut a deal, you don’t need to worry about paparazzi following you everywhere trying to get those first pics, right? No, that’s a lie. Magazines have competition, after all.  But at least you know how much you’re worth.

For the mags, that kind of photo is worthwhile - it increases sales, and it increases advertisements within the magazine. The week where Shiloh Jolie-Pitt graced the front of People Magazine the sale prices jumped by about $3 million. Clearly, $4 million wasn’t a ridiculous price to pay. People like baby pictures, and stars baby’s pictures sell.

And those of us who aren’t celebrities will have to go along paying for our baby’s first picture… sure is a hard knock life.
