Neither Angelina Jolie nor her brother, James Haven, have had anything to do with their estranged father, Jon Voight, since 2002.

Initially, the estrangement came from Jon saying that Angelina needed treatment for her “serious mental problems.” James, however, seems to think if there are any mental problems (and he’s not implying that there are), they come from Jon’s mental abuse on their mother.

Jon wrote a letter to E News, in which he says, “I find it very heartbreaking that my children want to paint a bad guy portrait of me.”

But in June 2007, Angelina told reporters, “At the end of the day, we both wish the best for each other and we’ll try to start communicating in some way.” James agrees with his sister in his own way, “I don’t want to constantly berate my father - I wish him well, and I hope he finds peace.”

In his letter (PDF), Jon explains that, “In all truth I tried to give them and their mother love and support and large sums of money.”

I guess no one ever told him that money doesn’t buy love.
