In true Julia Roberts fashion, Katherine Heigl stuck up for Britney Spears in her own straightforward and outspoken manner. “I can’t possibly imagine what that young girl is going through. It’s so beyond my realm of understanding.”

Although Katherine experienced the intense scrutiny of the spotlight after showing up in Grey’s Anatomy and then making the roll in last summer’s film, Knocked Up, it still wasn’t the same scrutiny as Britney. Katherine says that for Britney she wished compassion, “That people maybe will just back off and leave her alone and let her get through whatever it is she’s going through quietly.”

Some people have already begun to respect the fact that Britney is going through a hard time. PETA took her off their list of their style poll (though they say they’ll put her back if after she’s recovered she’s still wearing fur) and Mr. Blackwell neglected to put her on his Worst-Dressed List. “I hope that 2008 is a better year for her,” said Mr. Blackwell.

Meanwhile, Katherine Heigl said, “She is obviously in a great deal of drama and pain, and that’s a horrible thing to go through in front of the whole world, and I’m sorry for her.”
