NBC has decided to cancel the Golden Globes because of the Writer’s Strike. Since many of the top nominees, like Katherine Heigl, are still refusing to cross the picket lines, they decided to scale back the show and have only a press conference at 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 13. Usually, the Golden Globes is a three-hour dinner award ceremony.
Last year, 20 million viewers watched the Golden Globes, so the loss of the ceremony is clearly a blow to the network. Maybe the loss of such an “important” show will make the networks and the producers reconsider the demands of the Writer’s Guild. NBC did try to set it up so the award winners could walk down a makeshift red carpet and then head to the after parties, but again, the top nominees won’t cross the picket lines.
